NCAA Women's D 1 basketball tournament supported by Marchpool.com brackets
March 13th, 2008 - Marchpool.com, ‘The Game within the Game', announced today their patented brackets game software will support the women’s 2008 Division 1 national basketball tournament. All the Marchpool bracket game features that contestants have come to appreciate in their men’s internet game will be resident in the women’s version of the online tournament.
"This is an exciting moment for us, to implement our feature-rich brackets game for the women’s collegiate tourney”, stated Bob Barton, the commissioner of Marchpool. “There have been a number of social networking fan groups asking large media firms to help promote women’s basketball by conducting online brackets. We’re proud to be the first team to support this public request through implementation of our propriety code".
Marchpool promotes itself as ‘The Game within the Game’. The sites’ software allows contestant picks to compete 1-on-1 with the Selection Committee’s choices. Correct predictions result in points, with a perfect bracket ballot resulting in a score of 100 points. Contestants and the Committee are ranked on a scale of 1 to 64 to determine how deep their picks take them. The Selection Committee typically achieves at least a Sweet 16 ranking. The National Women’s Champ will receive a beautiful laser sculpture trophy.
According to Barton “Our 100 point game scale differs fundamentally from the well established gambling point formulas employed by internet office pools. Marchpool’s game and its related features provide plenty enough entertainment without the need to gamble. We adamantly believe it is NOT necessary to bet money to enjoy March Madness. Our game-over-gambling argument will be validated in the women’s tourney.
With time, we are hopeful we can use our code to help educate high school kids playing brackets of the dangers of compulsive gambling. It’s a real problem that is not being properly addressed. Our game site gives teachers some useful aids to begin a dialogue.”
Marchpool was founded by a diverse group of engineering grads who immigrated to San Jose’s Silicon Valley in the 1980’s. All came from basketball-crazed Universities where they participated in March Madness firsthand. Software and related intellectual property have been developed over time largely as a hobby. The website was formally put on the internet in 2001, and gradually opened up to friends and family members to participate in.
Marchpool now boast 3000+ friends across a variety of social networks, having grown largely through word of mouth. We have a growing number of professional basketball and media players worldwide who enjoy the game without feeling the need to gamble on it. We encourage anyone who reads this release to sign up at www.marchpool.com. Visit our website to get a better understanding about Marchpool, ‘The Game within the Game’.
